The ribbon
A spool of pale-gold satin rolled off a rail backstage. The end of it slipped under the stage door. Ninette was on the other side.

The stage door
She followed the ribbon through the door, past a guard, past a clipboard, and out into the light. Nobody stopped her. Nobody could see her. She is very small.

The end of the runway
She walked the whole thing, eyes closed, and sat down at the very end. Four hundred and twelve flashes fired. By morning there was a magazine.
